The LORD will guard you from all evil; He will preserve your soul. The LORD will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121:7–8
Whether your son is six or thirty-six, you never stop praying for him. This is a prayer for an ordinary day, for his safety and for the man he is becoming. Use his name wherever it says my son.
Father, thank You for my son. I still remember holding him for the first time, and I have loved him every day since. You loved him first, and You love him more than I can.
Watch over him today. Keep him safe on the road and wherever his day takes him. When I can’t be there, be there for him. Put Your hand on him in the moments I will never hear about.
Give him a strong heart and a gentle one. Help him be honest when lying would be easier. Help him stand up for the kid who is being picked on. When he gets it wrong, let him own it and try again.
Bring good people around him: loyal friends, and older men who set a good example. Keep him away from the ones who would pull him down.
Most of all, let him know You. Not just know about You, but know You for himself. Let his faith be his own and not only mine.
I trust him to You. Amen.
A short prayer by name, every morning. Free to start.
The LORD will guard you from all evil; He will preserve your soul. The LORD will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121:7–8
Then all your sons will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their prosperity.
Isaiah 54:13
Have I not commanded you to be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
Lord, keep my son safe today, wherever he goes. Give him wisdom for his choices and courage to do what is right. Surround him with good friends. When he is struggling, let him feel You close. Help him grow into a man who loves You and loves others well. I trust him to You. Amen.
Some parents pray this in the morning, after he leaves for school or work. Others pray it at night, standing at his door or before they fall asleep. There is no wrong time. If he is grown and lives far away, a quick prayer whenever he comes to mind counts too.
