As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
Psalm 103:13
Fathers often carry their worries quietly. This prayer gives words to what a dad hopes for his children and what he needs from God to raise them well. It works for a son or a daughter, young or grown.
Father in heaven, You know what it is to be a father. You know how much I love my child and how often I feel I’m not enough.
Thank You for the child You’ve given me. Keep my child safe today. Where I can’t protect them, You can. Stand between them and harm.
Give my child a good heart. Let them be honest when no one is checking. Let them work hard and treat people fairly. Help them choose friends who make them better.
And make me the father they need. Help me be patient when I’m tired and gentle when I’m frustrated. Let me say I’m proud of them out loud, more than once. Help me show up for the games and the late phone calls. When I get it wrong, give me the humility to apologize.
Let my child see something of You in me. Not a perfect dad, but one who keeps his word and points them to You.
I put my child in Your care. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A short prayer by name, every morning. Free to start.
As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
Psalm 103:13
The righteous man walks with integrity; blessed are his children after him.
Proverbs 20:7
Fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath; instead, bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
Ephesians 6:4
Lord, watch over my child today. Keep them safe and keep their heart right. Make me a father who listens well and says I love you often. Where I fall short, cover my mistakes with Your grace. Help my child grow up knowing You, and knowing that their dad is on their side. Amen.
Not every father is comfortable praying out loud, and that’s fine. You can pray this silently in the truck or while you watch your kid sleep. God hears a quiet prayer just as well. Short and honest is enough.
