Be kind and tenderhearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32
When your child marries, a new person joins your family. Some in-law relationships come easily and some take work. This prayer asks God to bless your son-in-law or daughter-in-law and to grow real love between you.
Lord, thank You for the person my child married. Thank You for bringing them into our family.
Bless them today. Keep them healthy and safe. Give them good work and a peaceful home. Draw them close to You.
Bless their marriage. Help them love each other well, especially when life gets busy or hard. Help them be patient with each other and quick to forgive. If they have children, give them wisdom and joy as parents.
Help me love them as my own. Let them feel welcome at my table and at ease in my home. Keep me from criticizing or taking sides. Teach me to hold my tongue and give advice only when they ask for it.
Where there is tension between us, heal it. Where we come from different families and traditions, help us respect each other. Let us find things to laugh about together.
Thank You for growing our family. Let it be a place of love for all of us.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A short prayer by name, every morning. Free to start.
Be kind and tenderhearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32
Now may the God who gives endurance and encouragement grant you harmony with one another in Christ Jesus, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 15:5–6
Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!
Psalm 133:1
Lord, bless my son-in-law and daughter-in-law. Keep them safe and draw them close to You. Strengthen their marriages and their homes. Help me love them as my own and make them feel truly welcome. Where there is tension, bring peace between us. Amen.
In-law relationships can be tender, especially early on. Praying for your son-in-law or daughter-in-law by name, week after week, may change how you see them. Ask God to show you what your child loves in them. A little patience can go a long way.
