Some parents start praying for their child’s future husband or wife years before anyone is in the picture. Somewhere out there, that person is growing up too. This prayer is for them and for the marriage your child may one day have.
Lord, I want to pray today for the person my child may one day marry.
I don’t know their name or where they live. You do. Wherever they are right now, watch over them. Keep them safe. Help them grow into someone kind and faithful.
Let them know You and love You. Shape their character in the hard seasons as well as the easy ones. Give them parents or mentors who teach them how to love well.
When the time is right, bring them and my child together. Help my son or daughter recognize the right person and walk away from the wrong ones. Guard both their hearts until then.
Let their marriage be built on friendship and faith. Teach them to forgive quickly and laugh often. Let them be a team when life gets hard.
And help me welcome this person as family. Let me love them like my own and keep my opinions to myself when I should.
I trust You with this, Lord. Amen.
A short prayer by name, every morning. Free to start.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs. Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. For if one falls down, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to help him up!
Never let loving devotion or faithfulness leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will find favor and high regard in the sight of God and man.
Lord, watch over the person my child will marry, wherever they are today. Keep them safe and draw them close to You. Shape their heart to be kind and faithful. In Your time, bring them together. Let their marriage be strong and full of love, and help me welcome them as family. Amen.
If your son or daughter is seeing someone, you can pray for that relationship by name. Ask God for wisdom for both of them and for clear eyes about whether it is right. Try to pray for the person, not just about them.
