A Prayer for My Family

Every family has good days and hard ones. This prayer asks God to watch over each person in your home and to keep your family close to each other and to Him. Pray it alone, or say it together at the table.

Lord, thank You for my family. They are the people I love most in the world, even on the days we drive each other crazy.

Watch over each of us today. Keep us safe and healthy. Be with us at work, at school and on the road, and bring us home again tonight.

Fill our home with peace. Help us be patient with each other and quick to forgive. When we argue, help us fight fair and make up soon. Teach us to listen before we speak.

Give us what we need. Help us be content with what we have and generous with others.

Where someone in our family is hurting, bring comfort. Where there is distance between us, bring us back together. Heal old wounds that still sting.

Let our family know You. Let our home be a place where faith is lived and not just talked about.

Thank You for loving us, Lord. Keep us close to You and to each other.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A short prayer by name, every morning. Free to start.

Verses to pray with

Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain; unless the LORD protects the city, its watchmen stand guard in vain.

Psalm 127:1

Bear with one another and forgive any complaint you may have against someone else. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which is the bond of perfect unity.

Colossians 3:13–14

‘May the LORD bless you and keep you; may the LORD cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the LORD lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace.’

Numbers 6:24–26

A short prayer for my family

Lord, bless my family today. Keep us safe and healthy. Fill our home with kindness and peace. Help us forgive each other and stay close. Give us what we need and grateful hearts for what we have. Draw each of us to You, and keep us close to each other. Amen.

Praying together as a family

If your family isn’t used to praying together, start small. Say a short prayer before dinner or before everyone heads out in the morning. Let children take turns. It doesn’t have to be long or polished to matter.
