Honor your father and mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
Exodus 20:12
Many people in midlife find themselves caring for their kids and their parents at the same time. This prayer is for your mom and dad, wherever they are in life. It gives thanks for them and asks God to care for them as they grow older.
Lord, thank You for my parents. Thank You for the home they gave me and the love that raised me, imperfect as we all are.
Watch over them today. Keep them healthy and safe. Give them strength for the aches and appointments that come with getting older. Protect them from falls, from illness, from scams and from loneliness.
Bless their days. If they are together, keep them kind to each other and close. If one of them is alone now, comfort the empty places in their life.
Give them peace about the future. Help them make wise decisions about their health and their money. Give us, their children, wisdom to help without taking over.
Draw them close to You, Lord. Let their faith bring them comfort and joy in these years.
Help me care for my mother and father, not just with words but with my time and patience. Let me call when I say I will. Let me listen to the same story twice and still smile.
Thank You for my parents. Keep them in Your care.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Honor your father and mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
Exodus 20:12
Do not discard me in my old age; do not forsake me when my strength fails.
Psalm 71:9
I once was young and now am old, yet never have I seen the righteous abandoned or their children begging for bread.
Psalm 37:25
Lord, bless my parents today. Keep them healthy and at peace. Give them strength for whatever this season brings. Thank You for the love they have given me. Help me care for them with patience and kindness, and give me time with them while I have it. Hold them close to You. Amen.
If you are helping care for an aging parent, you may feel stretched between their needs and your own family. Pray for them, and pray for yourself as well. Ask God for patience on the hard days and for help from the people around you.
