‘May the LORD bless you and keep you; may the LORD cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the LORD lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace.’
Numbers 6:24–26
A birthday is a good day to stop and thank God for your son. This prayer looks back on the year with gratitude and asks for blessing in the year ahead. Pray it on your own or at the table, or write part of it in his card.
Lord, today is my son’s birthday, and my heart is full.
Thank You for the day he was born. Thank You for every year since, for the laughter and the hard lessons alike. Thank You for who he is becoming.
As he starts this new year, bless him. Give him good health and a strong body. Give him work or school he can put his heart into and friends who stand by him. Open doors that are good for him and close the ones that aren’t.
Let this be a year he grows closer to You. Give him wisdom for the choices ahead and courage when things get hard.
Where last year brought disappointments, give him a fresh start. Where it brought joy, let there be more.
I am so proud to be his parent. Help him know that, today and every day.
Thank You for my son. Bless him all year long.
Amen.
A short prayer by name, every morning. Free to start.
‘May the LORD bless you and keep you; may the LORD cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; may the LORD lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace.’
Numbers 6:24–26
May He give you the desires of your heart and make all your plans succeed.
Psalm 20:4
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all my days were written in Your book and ordained for me before one of them came to be.
Psalm 139:16
Father, thank You for my son on his birthday. Thank You for every year of his life so far. Bless him in the year ahead with good health, good friends and a heart that stays close to You. Guide his steps and keep him safe. Let him know how loved he is. Amen.
If you want to write a blessing in his card, keep it simple. Something like: “I thank God for you every day, and I’m praying for a wonderful year ahead.” You can add one of the verses on this page. A few honest lines from his mom or dad can mean more than a long message.
