A Prayer for Hope

Hope is hard to hold on to when the same problems keep coming back. This prayer asks God for hope you can’t make yourself.

Lord, I’m running out of hope.

I’ve prayed about this for a long time, and I can’t see anything changing. I’m tired of waiting.

Still, You are the God of hope. Fill me with it again, not because things look good but because You are good.

Remind me of what You have already brought me through. You were faithful then, and You will be faithful now.

Your mercies are new every morning. Let me see one of them today.

Help me hold on until I see what You are doing. And when I can’t hold on, hold on to me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Verses to pray with

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 29:11

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13

Because of the loving devotion of the LORD we are not consumed, for His mercies never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!

Lamentations 3:22–23

A short prayer to hold on

Lord, I don’t see the way forward, but You do. Give me hope for today. Amen.

Hope in the darkest place

Lamentations was written after Jerusalem was destroyed, one of the darkest moments in Israel’s history. In the middle of that grief, its writer says God’s mercies are new every morning. Hope in the Bible isn’t pretending things are fine. It’s trusting God when they aren’t.
