The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.
Psalm 34:18
When someone you love dies, even praying can feel hard. This prayer says it plainly: it hurts, and you need God close. You don’t need any other words.
Lord, I miss them so much. It hurts more than I know how to say.
You know the whole of my heart: the sadness, the questions, maybe even the anger. I don’t have to hide any of it from You.
Thank You for the time we had. Thank You for every memory, the big ones and the small ordinary ones I keep coming back to.
Be close to me now. On the days I can’t stop crying and the days I feel nothing at all, stay near.
Comfort everyone who is grieving with me. Help us hold on to each other.
Carry me through today. I can’t see the end of this, but I trust that You can.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.
Psalm 34:18
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Matthew 5:4
‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,’ and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Revelation 21:4
Lord, I’m broken today. Please hold me. Amen.
On some days that is all anyone can pray, and it is enough.
Grief doesn’t follow a schedule. It can feel lighter for weeks and then come back on a birthday, with a song or at an empty chair. Praying through it doesn’t mean pretending to be fine. It means not carrying it alone.
