A Prayer for Overthinking

Overthinking replays yesterday and rehearses tomorrow until there’s no room left for today. This prayer asks God to quiet the noise.

Lord, my mind won’t stop.

I keep going over what I said, what they meant, what I should have done. I keep planning for things that may never happen. I’m tired of my own thoughts.

Quiet my mind. Take the conversations I keep replaying and the decisions I keep circling, and hold them for me.

Help me fix my thoughts on what is true and good, not on every worst case.

Give me peace about what I’ve done and trust for what’s ahead. Bring me back to this moment, where You are.

Let my mind rest in You tonight.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Verses to pray with

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think on these things.

Philippians 4:8

You will keep in perfect peace the steadfast of mind, because he trusts in You.

Isaiah 26:3

We demolish arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God; and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:5

A short prayer when your thoughts start spinning

Lord, I give You this thought. I don’t need to solve it now. Amen.

Somewhere better for your mind to go

Paul told the church in Philippi to think about whatever is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely and admirable. It isn’t a trick to stop thinking. It gives your mind somewhere better to go.
