Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death and broke away their chains.
Psalm 107:13–14
Loving a child who is addicted to drugs or alcohol is exhausting and frightening. You may feel hope one week and despair the next. This prayer is for your son or daughter, and for you.
Lord, my child is caught in addiction, and I can’t pull them out. Only You can.
You see them clearly, not just the using and the lies, but the person underneath. The child I raised is still in there. Please reach them.
Break the hold that drugs or alcohol have on them. Give them a real desire to get well and the courage to ask for help. Lead them to treatment that works and to people who will stay with them through it.
Keep them alive, Lord. Protect them on the nights I don’t know where they are. Keep them from overdose and from people who would take advantage of them.
Give me wisdom. Help me love them without enabling them. Help me set boundaries and keep them, even when it hurts. Show me when to hold on and when to step back.
Heal what this has done to our family. Give us rest and hope.
I give my child to You again today. Please bring them back to health and back to themselves.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Psalm 107:13–14
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it.
1 Corinthians 10:13
I waited patiently for the LORD; He inclined to me and heard my cry. He lifted me up from the pit of despair, out of the miry clay; He set my feet upon a rock, and made my footsteps firm.
Psalm 40:1–2
Lord, set my child free from addiction. Keep them alive and safe today. Give them the desire to get well and lead them to real help. Give me wisdom to love them without enabling them. Hold our family together while we wait. I’m trusting You with my child. Amen.
