The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.
The heading ties this psalm to David's escape from Abimelech, when he pretended to be mad before the Philistine king of Gath to save his life. It's written as a song of thanks, and here David teaches the lesson he learned. "Contrite in spirit" means crushed, someone whose pride has been flattened.
Psalm 34. A song of thanks attributed to David, written after he escaped danger.
