For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
This comes in a night-time conversation. Nicodemus, a Pharisee and a respected teacher, has come to Jesus privately in Jerusalem with questions. Jesus points back to Moses lifting the bronze snake in the wilderness, then says God's love reaches the whole world, not one nation. "Perish" is the opposite of "eternal life.
John, chapter 3. The fourth Gospel, telling the life of Jesus through His signs and His long conversations with His followers.
